Safety Note:

Standard tents may be used on mid-height racks when bed length, rack spacing, and load ratings are sufficient and rear overhang is minimal. As a general guide, a 6-foot bed can accommodate the Skycamp 4.0 Trio, while a 5-foot bed or shorter is best matched with the Skycamp 4.0 Duo, since the Trio’s added length is more likely to create rear overhang on a shorter bed. Bed length varies by cab and trim, so we recommend checking your owner’s manual or measuring your bed directly before purchasing. Excessive rear overhang is not recommended.

Double Cab vs CrewMax Consideration

CrewMax models offer slightly more cab length than Double Cab models, which can affect compatibility with longer tents on cab-mounted racks. Cab-mounted setups should always be evaluated based on the actual front-to-back cab measurement.

If you plan to run a bed cover, rooftop tent options can become significantly limited. Most bed rack systems require direct mounting to the bed rails or bed sides, which often conflicts with the mounting hardware and rail access needed for tonneau covers.

Even if both products fit the vehicle individually, they are typically not compatible when used together.

If keeping a bed cover is a priority, a cab or roof-mounted rack setup is generally the best alternative. This allows the bed cover to remain in place while still providing a secure and reliable mounting location for a rooftop tent.

Garage clearance: Adding a rooftop tent and rack system increases overall vehicle height, which can limit access to garages, parking structures, and covered drive-throughs. Always measure your total vehicle height after installation and compare it against clearance limits to avoid accidental contact or damage.

Aerodynamics: Mounting a tent higher on the vehicle increases wind exposure, which can affect driving dynamics. Increased wind resistance may result in additional road noise, reduced fuel efficiency, and more noticeable crosswind sensitivity, especially at highway speeds.

Before installing a rooftop tent, always verify the dynamic load ratings of your vehicle, rack system, and mounting hardware. While static load ratings are often much higher when the vehicle is parked, only dynamic ratings apply while driving.

When evaluating compatibility, always defer to the lowest-rated component in your setup, as this determines the safe operating limit for the entire system.

Annex compatibility depends on the total height of the vehicle and rack setup. Measure from the ground to the base of the tent before planning to use an annex.

iKamper HC ladders measure 90.5 inches (230 cm) and is suitable for setups up to 83 inches (211 cm). Taller bed rack or canopy setups may require the HC Ladder Extension, which adds an additional 12 inches (30 cm).
