OEM crossbars are best suited for Mini tents, while upgraded aftermarket crossbars or platform racks allow full compatibility with Standard tents by increasing strength, stability, and usable mounting options.

The Forester uses a roof-mounted rack system only. Because the tent sits entirely on the roof, rack strength, bar spacing, and overall roof length are key factors in determining compatibility.

OEM Subaru crossbars are designed for light cargo and are generally best suited for Mini rooftop tents when roof load limits are respected.

Standard tents are not recommended on OEM crossbars due to dynamic load limitations.
