iKamper Sleep Systems: A Complete Guide

Updated over 2 weeks ago

A good night’s sleep can make or break a camping trip. Every iKamper rooftop tent is designed to be slept in right out of the box, but iKamper’s sleep system is intentionally modular, allowing you to tailor comfort, warmth, and packability based on how and where you camp.

This guide walks through the full iKamper sleep system, including mattresses, blankets, sleepers, and the Air Down, so you can understand what comes standard, what can be upgraded, and how each component works together.

What Comes Standard with iKamper Tents

Not all iKamper tents include the same mattress. Understanding what comes standard helps you choose the tent and sleep setup that best matches your comfort preferences.

Base-model iKamper tents come equipped with a foam mattress designed to balance comfort, durability, and packability. Earlier Skycamp 1.0 and 2.0 tents used a 2-inch foam mattress, while current Skycamp 3.0 models and all other tents that use a foam mattress (BDV series and X-Cover) include a 3-inch foam mattress.

DLX models come standard with an RTT Comfort air mattress and do not include a foam mattress. This is one of the defining features of the DLX lineup.

Foam mattresses are not sold separately. Customers either purchase a tent that includes a foam mattress or a tent that comes standard with RTT Comfort.

Mattress Compatibility & Sizing Reference

Mattress size and type are specific to each iKamper tent. The table below shows which mattress comes standard with each tent and which RTT Comfort air mattress is compatible if you choose to upgrade.

Important Notes About Mattress Options

Base-model tents come standard with a foam mattress and may be upgraded to an RTT Comfort air mattress.

DLX tents come standard with RTT Comfort air mattresses. If you’d like to know which RTT Comfort mattress is included with a DLX tent, refer to the corresponding base model:

  • Skycamp Mini DLX uses the same RTT Comfort 5082 as the Skycamp 3.0 Mini

  • Skycamp DLX uses the same RTT Comfort Skycamp Bundle as the Skycamp 3.0

The mattress name and size can also be found directly on the mattress itself.

RTT Comfort mattresses are sized specifically for each tent and are not interchangeable between models.

When upgrading from foam to RTT Comfort, it is recommended to remove the foam mattress. Storing both mattresses inside the tent is not advised and can make closing the tent difficult.

Why Mattress Choice Matters

Choosing a mattress affects more than just softness. It influences how well you sleep, how warm you stay, and how easily your tent packs away. The foam mattress offers a simple, reliable sleep surface that’s always ready to go and works well for campers who prefer firmer support with minimal setup. RTT Comfort air mattresses add adjustability and extra cushioning, which many side sleepers or longer-trip campers appreciate.

Your mattress choice also affects how much bedding you can leave inside the tent and how smoothly the tent closes. There’s no right or wrong choice, just what works best for the way you camp.

Blankets, Covers, and Sleepers

Once your mattress is dialed, bedding fine-tunes warmth, cleanliness, and overall sleep comfort. iKamper’s blankets, covers, and sleepers are designed specifically for rooftop tent use and are sized to work across the iKamper lineup without interfering with tent closure.

RTT Blankets

RTT Blankets are designed to add warmth and comfort inside your rooftop tent. They can be used on their own in mild conditions or layered inside a Sleeper to improve cold-weather performance.

RTT Blankets are available in two fill options:

  • RTT Blanket (down) for maximum warmth-to-weight performance

  • RTT Blanket DPL (Dura Prima Loft) for a synthetic, allergy-friendly alternative

Both blanket options are designed to store inside the tent when closed.

Temperature Ratings and Layering

RTT Blankets are not sold with a standalone temperature rating when used by themselves. Their warmth is best understood as part of a layered sleep system.

When an RTT Blanket is paired with an RTT Sleeper you can extend your comfortable temperature range.

For cold-weather camping, think of the RTT Blankets as an insulating layer that enhances overall warmth rather than a standalone cold-rating reference.

Blanket Covers

Blanket covers are designed specifically to fit over iKamper RTT Blankets. They are not mattress covers.

Covers add a light layer of insulation and make cleaning easier by allowing you to remove and wash just the cover instead of the entire blanket. They’re especially helpful for campers who store bedding inside the tent between trips.

Sleepers (Sleeping Bags)

RTT Sleepers are sleeping bags designed specifically for roof top tent use. Their shape and sizing work well within the tent footprint, and they’re designed to remain inside the tent when folded.

There are two insulation types available: down fill and DPL (synthetic fill). Each offers different warmth characteristics depending on your camping conditions.

Temperature Ratings

RTT Sleeper (Down Fill) - Designed for colder conditions and four-season use.

  • Sleeper only:

    • Comfort: 25°F

    • Limit: 14°F

  • Sleeper + RTT Blanket:

    • Comfort: 10°F

    • Limit: -4°F

RTT Sleeper Double DPL (Synthetic Fill) - Best suited for milder conditions and warm-weather camping.

  • Sleeper only:

    • Comfort: 61°F

    • Limit: 51°F

  • Sleeper + RTT Blanket Double DPL:

    • Comfort: 55°F

    • Limit: 43°F

Using a layered sleep system allows you to adapt warmth based on season and conditions, whether you’re extending into shoulder seasons or prioritizing breathability in warmer weather.

Sizing and Fit

RTT Sleepers and RTT Blankets are designed to work across the iKamper lineup and can be used in both Mini and Standard tents. Most Standard-size tents comfortably accommodate two individual Sleepers side by side, while Double Sleepers provide a shared sleeping setup.

AirDown

AirDown is a deflation tool designed to make closing your rooftop tent easier when using an RTT Comfort air mattress.

It helps speed up deflation, reduce resistance when closing the tent, and improve consistency when packing bedding inside. AirDown is especially helpful in colder conditions, when air mattresses can feel stiffer. AirDown comes included with DLX models.

Care, Storage, and Longevity

Proper care helps maintain comfort, insulation performance, and cleanliness.

Always allow bedding to fully dry before storage, especially after exposure to rain or condensation. Blanket covers can be removed and washed separately, reducing how often blankets need cleaning. Mattresses should be spot cleaned only.

For long-term storage, ensure bedding is dry, periodically air it out, and store in a cool, dry place when possible.

All iKamper sleep system components are designed to store inside the tent when closed, though bedding volume will vary depending on mattress choice.

A Note on Product Availability

Several items in our Sleep Systems lineup are no longer available, including the RTT Sleeper Double (two-person, down fill), RTT Sleeper DPL (single-person, synthetic fill), RTT Blanket Double, and RTT Blanket Max.

We’re actively exploring updated designs and new supplier options, but there are no plans for a near-term restock. We’ll share updates if and when new Sleep System products become available.
