How to Set Up a Skycamp Series Roof Top Tent

Updated over 5 months ago

This step-by-step guide walks you through setting up your Skycamp RTT. While minor features may vary slightly between models, the core process remains consistent across the Skycamp series.

Step-by-Step Setup Instructions

1. Park your vehicle on level ground

Before opening the tent, make sure your vehicle is stable and parked on as flat of a surface as possible. Engage the parking brake.

2. Release all latches

Open the latch or latches located around the shell:

  • Full-size Skycamp models typically have three latches (sides and rear)

  • Skycamp Mini models have two latches (sides)

3. Lift the hard shell

Once unlatched, gently lift the upper shell.

  • The gas struts will take over and fully raise the lid.

  • If there’s resistance, double-check that all latches are fully released.

4. Pull out the extension panel

Grasp the aluminum extension panel and pull it outward in a smooth, controlled motion until it’s fully extended and locked into place.

5. Deploy the ladder

The ladder supports the weight of the extension panel and provides access to the tent.

  • Pull the ladder out and rotate it downward

  • Extend the ladder so it reaches the ground at a 60–70° angle

  • Make sure the ladder feet are stable and secure on the ground

Tip: The ladder must be properly angled to support the tent’s lower section. Avoid setting it too vertically.

6. Secure the rainfly and window tension poles

Insert the included aluminum tension poles into the rainfly openings to prop up the side windows and front rainfly awning.

  • Slide the straight end of the rod into the tent bracket

  • Hook the curved end into the grommet on the window flap

Tip: The front rainfly awning has two mount points. When you're not using accessories like the Awning or Annex, insert the tension pole into the fabric sleeve at the edge of the awning. When using accessories, you can use the inside grommet.

7. Arrange the interior

Unfold the mattress and make any adjustments:

  • Ensure sleeping bags or pillows are not trapped in hinges

  • Reposition window covers and open vents as needed

  • Install the insulation tent or lighting (if applicable)
