Before You Begin

Preparation Tips:
Check your vehicle specifications: Make sure your vehicle can accommodate a roof or bed rack and review weight limits.
Inspect the rack components: Confirm that all brackets, bolts, and crossbars are included and undamaged.
Have a helper: Installation is safer and easier with at least two people.
Step 1: Determine Your Rack Configuration
The Raconteur Rack is modular and can be configured in multiple ways:
Mid-Height Bed Rack: Sits above the truck bed rails, balancing clearance and accessibility.
Full-Height Bed Rack: Provides maximum clearance for tents and accessories.
Cab Rack: Mounts directly to the cab of the truck for lightweight or smaller accessories.
Roof Rack: Mounts to vehicles with full roofs or roof rails.
Decide which setup best fits your vehicle and intended use.
Step 2: Mount the Rack Legs
Position the legs on the bed or cab according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Ensure the legs are aligned and square with the vehicle.
Use the provided bolts to secure the legs loosely at first — this allows for adjustments before final tightening.
Tip: Measuring diagonals can help confirm that the legs are perfectly square.
Step 3: Install the Crossbars
Place the crossbars on top of the rack legs.
Adjust their spacing according to your load requirements:
Rooftop tents: Minimum 30" between crossbars is recommended.
Light bars or cargo: Follow manufacturer guidance for spacing.
Use the provided brackets to attach the crossbars securely to the legs.
Tighten all bolts evenly using a torque wrench if available.
Step 4: Check Clearance and Weight Limits
Verify the overall height of the rack plus vehicle, especially if adding a rooftop tent.
Check static and dynamic weight capacities: ensure your vehicle and rack can safely carry the intended load.
Confirm accessibility: ensure you can open and close the bed, doors, or tailgate without obstruction.
Step 5: Install Accessories
Once the rack is securely mounted, you can add:
Roof top tents (BDV Duo/Solo, Skycamp, X-Cover)
Light bars
Awnings
Storage boxes or cargo carriers
Always follow the accessory manufacturer’s mounting instructions and ensure total weight does not exceed the rack’s capacity.
Helpful Tips
Double-check all bolts after your first few trips.
Regular maintenance: Inspect and retighten bolts periodically.
Weatherproofing: Apply anti-corrosion treatment to bolts and metal surfaces if needed.
Avoid sharp turns or overloading: Respect the dynamic load rating to maintain safe handling.
